And this isn’t referring to the quality of the BBQ.
In senior hockey Labrador suffered a rare wipeout day on Saturday, competing in six games for six losses.
With the Tigerstix BHL1 side managing to snatch a loss from the jaws of success for the second successive game (see story below) the day wasn’t any better elsewhere.
In Men’s Division 3 Labrador Gold went down 3-2 to Nerang after leading at half-time, and Labrador Teal were soundly defeated by the well-performing Mudgeeraba 6-2.
In Women’s Division 3 Labrador Gold looked like causing an upset over Nerang for much of the game before succumbing to a 6-4 loss, and Labrador Teal were well in the match when leading 1-0 at half-time before going down 2-1 to Mudgeeraba.
On Sunday fortunes changed including an 8-1 win in Men’s Division 1 over Burleigh, bouncing back from last week’s loss, and a 4-0 win in Women’s Division 1 for Labrador Black, also over Burleigh. A win also to the Women’s Division 2 Labrador Gold side over Labrador Black, and in Men’s Division 2 a win to Labrador Gold over Nerang, as well as a hard fought draw for the young (apart from the “experienced” Perkie) Labrador Black side against Burleigh.
On their seventh attempt against the Tigerstix BHL1 side University finally managed to come away with the points. Labrador led twice during the match at 1-0 and 2-1, but allowed the opposition to level each time before for the second week in a row the telling blow was struck just 6 minutes from full time.
Goals from Joe Reardon and Mark Harris were not enough with the Uni attack slotting home three to see the Tigerstix suffer their third defeat of the season, down 3-2.
In BHL2 the Tigerstix went down 3-1 to University. There are no BHL matches this weekend whilst the Premier League takes centre stage.
In Junior hockey Labrador teams are flying high with the Tigerstix heading the tables in six of the seven divisions, in some cases holding down both first and second spots.
Undefeated teams include the Under 11 Lab Black boys, Under 13 Lab Black boys, Under 13 Lab Teal Girls, Under 15 Lab Gold boys and Under 18 Lab Black girls.
Well done to all the Junior players.
